| electric saws are LOUD! |
| message from Bon Koo on 1996/07/26 |
I lost some of my hearing cutting through plywood with an electric
portable saw that was maybe 15 years old. Are the new stuff really loud
too? The saw wasn't that loud when it was on but when I started cutting
it was very very loud. Do you use any protection for your hearing? and if
so what?
Thanks in advance.

I *always* use a pair of headphone style hearing protectors. I feel
funny in my shop if I don't have them on. I never fire up any
machine, from sander to tablesaw to router to ... you name it, without
those hearing protectors on.

What? -just kidding.
I use hearing protection, the kind that looks like old style headphones.
Mine are made of hard red plastic. They work very well. I used to use the
kind that sort of fit in one's ear, but I don't think they're that good
anymore. These red ones are easier- just grab 'em and slap 'em on. Plus
one isn't putting a bunch of sawdust *directly* into one's ear =).
