Mini Belt Sanders
message from Mark on 3 Mar 2003
I am looking for a mini belt sander (1/4") that runs on household current.
The ones I have seen are all air tools. I have heard that one exists but
can't seem to find it.

I have also heard of an adaptor to fit a 4 1/2" grinder that would convert
it to a mini belt sander. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

I've seen them at my local welding supply joint (northeast gas tech) and
years ago I used one at a fab shop ,I think it was a Black and Decker
industrial job. It was handheld and worked pretty well for inside edges and
other hard to reach spots. Thanks.... now I'll have to go looking for one
and add it to my already extensive (but not under utilized )tool collection.
It doesn't take much to awaken the (lightly)sleeping tool whore.

There are at least three brands of mini belt sanders (electric). Makita
makes one that will do 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch belts. Milwaukee makes a 1/2"
and Proxxon makes a 3/8" one.

I'm going to have to think pretty hard about spending $250 for a 1/4 inch
belt sander. They use them locally to finish stainless steel welds for food
processing equipment and they are slick.

kinda cheapo, but they do work; get a couple extra bags of belts (around 60ยข
a piece)

have lots of small hobby-type tools, altho most are pretty gutless. If you
can hook up a small air compressor with a big-ass tank maybe you *can* run
air tools??
