Director Gus Van Sant got quite a reaction when he announced he would follow up the huge success of Good Will Hunting with this scene-by-scene remake of the classic Sixties chiller. Hitchcock fans had their worst fears confirmed when it was released it is nowhere near as good as the original, with the cast unable to hold their own and the whole affair curiously lacking in atmosphere. Vince Vaughn attempts to recreate Anthony Perkins' unforgettable performance as disturbed motel owner Norman Bates, whose curious relationship with his domineering mother leads to murder. Anne Heche revisits the ill-fated shower scene immortalised by Janet Leigh in the original, while Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen and William H Macy offer support.

| The London Grand Prix. Steve Cram presents live coverage of the biggest meeting in the British athletics calendar at the Crystal Palace stadium. An impressive field will be in attendance, with the likes of world 100m champion Kim Collins looking to capture a psychological advantage over his sprint rivals ahead of the Olympic Games in two weeks' time. Last year there were four British winners for the crowd to cheer, and among the hopefuls this time is javelin star Steve Backley, who'll be eager to throw well in what is expected to be his last-ever competition on home soil. | Jim Sheridan's controversial but impassioned Oscar-nominated drama adapted from the autobiography of Guildford Four member Gerry Conlon, chronicling his tireless efforts to overturn a life sentence imposed for his alleged involvement with the IRA. Daniel Day-Lewis (who also worked with Sheridan on the Academy Award-winning My Left Foot) gives, as ever, an incredibly powerful, tormented performance, and the wonderful supporting cast includes an emotional Pete Postlethwaite, plus Emma Thompson and John Lynch. A definite must-see.
